| Mission |
| The mission of the SMARTS Mentoring Program is to
provide a quality and supportive environment for
teachers in Title I schools |
|
|
Duties of SMARTS Mentors |
- Welcome new and beginning teachers identified by
administration as at risk and take a personal
interest in their professional development
- Share your knowledge, skills, and experience
with other teachers.
- Listen well, recognize excellence in others, and
encourage excellence in others
- Offers support, challenge, patience, new
perspectives and standards
- Work with SMARTS mentee a minimum of 2 hours per
week not to exceed three hours
- Maintains Confidentiality
- Creates success through caring
- Celebrates successes and discusses failures
- Schedules a mutually agreeable time for your
next meeting
- Initiates closure to meetings by rephrasing your
understanding of the mentee/ mentor relationship,
expressing your feelings regarding outcomes of
meetings

| SMARTS Mentor Qualifications |
- Currently employed at the mentee's school
location
- Professionalism, reliability and willingness to
assume the position duties
- Masters Degree and/or National Board of
Professional Teacher Standards Certified
- Valid Florida Professional Teacher Certification
- Outstanding performance pursuant to section
10.12.34 (3)(a.) 1-7
